The Environment and Consumer Protection Office of the City of Cologne has a vacancy for a permanent position as an engineer (m/f/d) in the field of nature and landscape conservation from 01.06.2025.
The Lower Nature Conservation Authority is primarily responsible for the special regulatory nature conservation work in the city of Cologne in accordance with the provisions of the Federal Nature Conservation Act (BNatSchG), the State Nature Conservation Act (LNatSchG) and the landscape plan as well as the relevant EU directives.
YOUR FUTURE TASKS
YOU...
- look after the protected areas of nature and landscape and monitor compliance with the Cologne landscape plan
- plan and commission protection, maintenance and safeguarding measures in these areas
- review applications for exceptions and exemptions from the landscape plan, coordinate the nature conservation advisory board and monitor conditions
- process the impact regulation under nature conservation law and ensure the necessary avoidance, compensation and replacement measures
You will also manage and maintain the compensation register and monitor the corresponding measures
YOUR PROFILE:
You have a successfully completed degree (at least a university of applied sciences diploma or bachelor's degree) in landscape conservation, landscape planning, landscape architecture, landscape ecology or comparable

- have extensive knowledge and practical experience in administrative practice, nature conservation, landscape management, ecology and species protection
- have technical and methodological skills, including scientifically sound assessment procedures and knowledge of planning methods
- are characterized by a proactive, decisive and team-oriented way of working
- are willing to learn and perform, are service-oriented and have digital skills
- are authorized to drive municipal vehicles and are willing to use your own vehicle if necessary
- ideally have regulatory experience in local government
- have gender competence and a commitment to diversity
WE OFFER YOU:
We offer you not only a financially secure job with all the benefits of the public sector, but also a regulated working week of 39 hours for employees. Employment is possible on a part-time and full-time basis.
The position is valued according to pay group 10 of the collective agreement for the public service (TVöD) for employees.
The salary range in pay group 10 (TVöD-VKA) is between €3,895.33 (experience level 1) and €5,433.63 (experience level 6) for a full-time position.
Your professional experience will be taken into account when assigning you to the experience level within the pay group, insofar as this is possible under collective bargaining law.
The position is permanent.
