The 2018 Schinkel Competition, organized by the Architekten- und Ingenieur-Verein zu Berlin e.V. (Berlin Association of Architects and Engineers), has the motto "Urban Oasis".
The competition task in the field of landscape architecture is the development of a green area in Berlin-Spandau.
Although the exact task will not be issued until 29.09.2017, interdisciplinary teams should already be formed now. The deadline for submission is 05.02.2018. The competition is aimed at graduates and students of higher semesters.
Current forecasts for Berlin anticipate an increase in population of more than 250,000 people by 2030. In order to meet the resulting increase in demand for housing, areas have been identified throughout Berlin that are suitable for new residential construction and should be activated for this purpose.
The competition area in Wilhelmstadt is designated as a potential area for residential construction in the Berlin district of Spandau.
The aim of the competition is to develop a model for a pioneering urban quarter, exemplarily integrated into the parameters of location and context.
Participants are invited to form overarching trans- and interdisciplinary groups. Although the tasks are mainly assigned to individual disciplines, they will be judged by an interdisciplinary jury. Special prizes are available for collaborations.
