As is well known, the then Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety had launched a long-term initiative for greener cities.
For the first time, the current state of knowledge on urban green space has been summarised in an interdepartmental Green Book. It was conceived as a discussion paper with the aim of initiating a broad dialogue with regard to the importance of urban green space in integrated urban development. One result of this discussion process was the White Paper on Urban Greening published in May 2017.
The topic of "green in the city" is also being intensively discussed internationally. It is therefore all the more gratifying that the White Paper is now available in English translation. In addition, a French and an English summary are available.
