In its new BfN script 538, the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN) provides an up-to-date overview of the services and functions of green roofs and facades in urban areas.
The status of subsidies in the municipalities, the relation to planning instruments under nature conservation law including the possibilities of establishing them in urban land use planning and the significance for nature conservation are also presented.
The greening of roofs and facades contributes to improving the local climate and helps biodiversity. Green buildings can thus become part of an urban green infrastructure.
