The Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL), together with the Länder and associations, including the bdla, is calling on village communities to take part in the 27th nationwide competition "Our Village has a Future".
With this competition every three years, the BMEL honours civic commitment and makes positive developments in rural regions visible. The "Our Village has a Future" competition motivates people in rural areas to play an active role in determining the future of their villages and to get involved in the social, cultural, economic, ecological and structural development of their village.
"Without lively villages, we all look old. And it is not the politicians who have the best ideas, but the local residents.
Federal Minister Julia Klöckner
Special ideas and initiatives for shaping an attractive village life are being sought. The following areas of evaluation will be given special consideration: Our village has a future, because we...
- develop goals and concepts, support economic initiatives and contribute to the improvement of the infrastructure,
- are socially engaged and develop village cultural activities..,
- and treat our building culture, nature and environment with respect and sensitivity.
The final event will take place during the International Green Week in Berlin in January 2023.
Since 1961, the competition has been held under the patronage of the Federal President. Since 1993, the participating villages from the old and new federal states have been judged together in the traditional national competition. The 2016 national competition was held for the first time as part of the new "Federal Rural Development Programme".
Update on April 24, 2020: Please note, due to the Corona pandemic, the dates have been postponed by one year.
