The Joint Federal Congress of Professional Associations planned for Friday, 29 May 2020, and Saturday, 30 May 2020, in Kiel will not take place. The congress theme "Urban Greening for All! Promoting appreciation, enabling participation" will be held at the 2021 congress in Erfurt.

Whether playgrounds, neighbourhood meeting points or parks: in public green spaces, but also in infrastructure projects and garden shows, there is no way around citizens' initiatives and often complex participation procedures. This presents municipalities with new personnel and financial challenges, but paves the way for more appreciation on the part of citizens and thus increases the acceptance of planning results. How can green space offices and planners position themselves in this tension, act transparently, and which methods and formats have already proven themselves in practice?

Moderated by Mechthild Harting, FAZ, speakers will discuss in four blocks their experiences with civic engagement, participation of citizens in various projects as well as necessary and successful public relations work around the respective project.
