Together with BIS - Bremerhavener Gesellschaft für Investitionsförderung und Stadtentwicklung (Bremerhaven Society for Investment Promotion and Urban Development), the Bundesstiftung Baukultur (Federal Foundation for Building Culture) invites you to the Baukulturwerkstatt "Öffentliche Räume als Motor der Stadtentwicklung" (Building Culture Workshop "Public Spaces as an Engine of Urban Development") in Bremerhaven on 3 and 4 September 2020. The bdla is involved as a conceptual partner.
Public spaces shape the cityscape and are crucial for our quality of life. They are currently more important and more present in our everyday lives than ever before. For many years, Bremerhaven has combined its location development with the conversion and upgrading of public spaces. How sustainable is this strategy and what potential does it offer for the future - in Bremerhaven and elsewhere?
The current Baukultur Report 2020/21 "Public Spaces" will serve as a sounding board and at the same time be put to the test on the basis of experiences and projects in Bremerhaven. Concrete examples will be presented and discussed on the basis of the three main topics "Urban development and open spaces", "Infrastructure and elements" and "Democracy and processes". The focus will be on guiding principles that place people at the centre and at the same time qualify locations.
Depending on the social or professional perspective, different demands are placed on public spaces. Their planning and design requires a view into the future in order to think ahead of developments and to define and include the upcoming functions for future generations. Interdisciplinary exchange is essential for this.
