On 01 October 2021, a spontaneous discussion took place in Erfurt at the University of Applied Sciences between the spokespersons of the bdla working group on education and student representatives from all over Germany. The latter were on the occasion of the Student Conference Landscape, in short LASKO, from 27 September to 1 October "Plan/los!" at the UAS. The meeting of both bodies - student body and professional body - at the same place was used for getting to know each other personally and for an exchange of information.
Informative indications for the recruitment of young people carried out by the bdla emerged in a round of talks in which the students, among others from Bernburg, Berlin, Dresden-Pillnitz (cooperative course of studies at the HTW), Erfurt, Munich-Weihenstephan and Nürtingen, answered the question "Why did I decide on this course of studies?". The following aspects were used to justify their decision:
- meaningful, practice-oriented communicative profession,
- good "mix" between desk and building site, resp. planning and building, nature conservation,
- all are dependent on it, holism, cycles, interdisciplinary work, view for connections,
- Interest in landscape and technology, combining creativity and natural sciences (art/botany), interest in design and nature conservation, design affects environment, climate resilient cities,
- making places better, designing for people, bringing people together,
- individual design, cross-cultural connections, edible landscapes, ecological,
- "making the world a better place"
Other topics, such as very different qualities of online teaching at Corona times and the possible or necessary later chamber entry, which is generally not yet in focus with students, were also addressed.
The personal exchange inspired all participants. And so it was agreed to meet again as soon as possible, either at the next preparatory meeting of the LASKO in Weihenstephan in spring 2022 or at the next LASKO at BOKU Vienna in autumn 2022.
