In order to achieve the national climate protection targets, the BMUV has presented a key points paper on how to effectively implement this challenge.
Natural climate protection" refers to the fact that intact ecosystems such as forests, floodplains, peatlands or urban green spaces bind a considerable amount of carbon dioxide and assume an important protective and resilient function during extreme weather events. This potential must be harnessed and safeguarded for future generations.
Concrete fields of action include the development of a peatland protection strategy, the renaturation and enhancement of floodplains, the restoration of degraded ecosystems, and near-natural green space management. In addition, the strategy attaches great importance to the recording and monitoring of ecosystems and the development of knowledge through research programs. The intention is to involve the public in the fall and to present the action program in early 2023.
The bdla will deal intensively with the action program and provide technical contributions to it.
