At the beginning of October 2024, the Federal Ministry for the Environment presented the draft of the German Strategy for Adaptation to Climate Change. The bdla then took part in a formal association consultation.
The strategy was developed as part of the Federal Climate Adaptation Act (KAnG), which came into force in July 2024, and provides for the implementation of a new, precautionary climate adaptation strategy with measurable targets. The draft comprises 34 goals and 53 sub-goals covering key areas such as infrastructure, land and land use, urban development and water. Input from an informal consultation with federal states and associations as well as a public consultation in 2023 has already been incorporated into the draft.
The bdla was actively involved in the overall process and has now also accepted the BMUV's invitation to contribute its feedback on the draft objectives, measures and instruments in a formal online consultation. The final version of the Climate Adaptation Strategy is expected to be adopted by the Federal Cabinet in December 2024.
