Landscape architecture – like many other professions – faces a shortage of new talent. Whilst the demand for qualified planners is growing, the number of bachelor’s degree graduates in landscape architecture has been stagnating at around 600 per year for years. In view of climate adaptation, growing planning needs and an impending wave of retirements, this is clearly far too few. The profession needs at least twice as many graduates as it has today.

In the bdla’s view, the draft bill for the Act on Strengthening Natural Infrastructure and Further Developing the Regulations on Interference under Nature Conservation Law (NatInfG) falls short of its own ambitions. Rather than providing an effective counterbalance to the Future of Infrastructure Act, which was only passed by the Bundestag at the end of June, it raises new technical and legal questions.

From 15 to 18 September 2026, Nuremberg will once again host GaLaBau, the international trade fair for urban greenery and open spaces. The overarching theme is ‘Climate-ready for the future’.
