This is the 16th competition since it was first held in 1993. The prize, which is awarded every two years, honors exemplary projects and their authors. The subject matter is socially and ecologically oriented settlement and landscape development as well as contemporary open space planning. After all, our times are characterized by ecological, social and economic challenges: advancing climate change, increasing scarcity of resources, massive loss of biodiversity. Increasing demands are being placed on the efficiency of the environment. The quality of open spaces in cities and rural areas is of particular importance in terms of sustainability, value, resource conservation and biodiversity. The development of climate-resilient open spaces and landscapes requires a fundamental rethinking and visionary action at all planning levels

On April 21, 2023, the nine-member jury will sift through the 35 nominated works and decide on the awarding of the First Prize, the Special Climate Adaptation/Climate Protection Prize, and the awards in the categories Public Space as Center, Living Environment/Working Environment, Use of Plants, Landscape and Urban Development, Sports, Play, Movement, Landscape Architecture in Detail, Young Landscape Architecture, Historic Sites/Garden Monument Preservation, and Maturity - Projects, 20 Years after Completion. The award honors outstanding planning achievements, including conceptual ones, that demonstrate aesthetically sophisticated, innovative, ecological and participatory solutions to the aforementioned tasks.

The award will be presented on Friday, September 15, 2023, in Berlin. For this occasion, a comprehensive documentation with all awarded and nominated works of the current competition year will be produced.
