On Monday, November 4, 2024, Hinnerk Wehberg, representative of WES LandschaftsArchitektur, will be honored with the plaque of the Free Academy of Arts in Hamburg. The plaque, the academy's highest honor, is awarded to individuals whose artistic work is of exceptional importance.

Wehberg is a man whose work as a painter, sculptor and landscape architect over six decades has left its mark not only on Hamburg, but also far beyond the city limits.

Wehberg, born in Osnabrück in 1936, began his artistic career as a painter and developed into one of the most influential landscape architects in Germany over the course of his career.

His tireless drive to transcend the boundaries of individual disciplines has made him a formative figure in the world of art and architecture. This holistic approach is also reflected in his office WLES, founded in 1969, from which today's WES LandschaftsArchitektur emerged. As a representative of the office, Wehberg remains closely associated with the company and advises it on important projects.

A special highlight of the award ceremony will be a discussion between Hinnerk Wehberg and the internationally renowned architect Volkwin Marg, founding partner of gmp Architekten. Both personalities will provide insights into their work and discuss the interfaces between art and architecture.

Following the award ceremony, an exhibition will be opened that pays tribute to Hinnerk Wehberg's extensive work. It not only shows his pioneering projects in the field of landscape architecture, but also highlights his work as a painter and sculptor.
