From the decision of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania regional association of the Association of German Landscape Architects BDLA:
Ms. Avduli has addressed an important inner-city problem area in her hometown of Tirana, the Lana River, which is scenic but currently unusable and ecologically difficult. She has extensively analyzed the development of the river and the surrounding neighborhoods. The Lana is a small river that flows through the capital of Albania. It was allowed to develop largely naturally until the 1960s, when it was canalised, and is now heavily polluted. Many of the buildings illegally erected near the riverbank in the 1990s have been removed, but littered areas without adequate access or connection to adjacent urban areas remain.
Ms. Avduli developed a landscape architectural solution for the site that took into account both its special (origin) history, unique landscape character, and also its ecological potential. She looked at different urban parks around the world, evaluated the urban and ecological potentials and offers a proposed solution to the political leaders in Tirana to solve this fundamental problem of urban development. A presentation for the responsible persons of the administration of the city of Tirana is planned.
The design was visualized by Ms. Avduli in a technically detailed and descriptive way.
Supervisors were Prof. Dr. Caroline Rolka and as second supervisor Prof. Dr. Armand Vokshi, university professor at the Technical University in Tirana and freelance landscape architect as well as chairman of the Chamber of Architects of Albania.
