On Friday, March 25 at 5:00 p.m. in the Palais Salfeldt in Quedlinburg, the decision on the winners of the Central German Student Competition 2021/22 bdla for the competition "Schwammstadt Quedlinburg - Ideen für die Welterbestadt Quedlinburg" was made.

After seven hours, the fourteen-member jury of representatives of the disciplines: landscape architecture, architecture, civil engineering and monument preservation had unanimously decided that the contribution with the poetic quote of the Greek philosopher Heraclitus, the most comprehensive answers to the current challenges of a climate-friendly world heritage city Quedlinburg. Behind the cover number hides the landscape architecture student Holger Rothamel from the TU Dresden, whom we would like to congratulate herewith quite cordially!

Impressive number of participants, high quality of work

The field of applicants with 70 students from five universities, who had to submit two plans each with an overall concept and detailed solutions in groups and individual works, had submitted numerous very high-quality works. The development of an overall concept for protection against extreme heavy rainfall, the highest possible water retention and making it possible to experience water in the open space was a very complex challenge for the stone city center. For the individual solutions, it was not enough to apply only the "textbook solutions" of so-called sponge city principles; the jury was particularly in favor of innovative and comprehensive solutions.
