Environmental justice is one aspect of spatial justice.

A successful strategy for achieving spatial justice is to focus participation and planning on people and their specific needs according to the standards and criteria of gender, diversity and inclusion, with the aim of understanding open spaces as social infrastructure, designing them and making them usable.

Through programmes such as "Socially Integrative City", projects are promoted that focus on social hotspots, so-called problem neighbourhoods are also upgraded through open space design in order to be able to compensate for social disadvantages, small apartments, low financial resources, few opportunities for sports, exercise, culture, social engagement and effectiveness.
