Nationwide festival Women in (Landscape)Architecture from June 19 to 29, 2025

Women in Architecture is an initiative to make women visible in architecture, urban planning, landscape and interior design, architecture and to promote diversity in building culture. The first festival of this kind in 2021 took place in Berlin; the second and now nationwide festival will be held from June 19 to 29, 2025. WIA 2025 is supported and accompanied by Federal Building Minister Klara Geywitz (BMWSB) and the President of the Federal Chamber of Architects, Andrea Gebhard, as patrons.

Equal opportunities and diversity make society stronger

Klara Geywitz supports the festival because "it shows role models, because it motivates and because it connects. (...) We need women in the planning and construction professions - with their specific perspectives and as additional specialists. The proportion of women on the path from university studies to career entry to management positions is still crumbling. Women need strong professional networks in order to assert themselves, even in the face of resistance." Andrea Gebhard sees the task of the WIA Festival as making the "inspiring paths" of women in "the so-called male domain of construction" visible "and giving more space to the wealth of ideas of female architects, interior designers, landscape architects and urban planners". "I hope that the female view of our built environment will broaden established perspectives. Equal opportunities and diversity make us stronger as a society."

Women in Landscape Architecture WILA 2025

Women in Architecture Berlin 2021 was the first festival in the capital on the topic; with three focal points: Visibility, Dialogue, Diversity.

With "WILA 24h", the bdla Berlin/Brandenburg organized a 24-hour event on Women in Landscape Architecture. For an entire weekend, female landscape architects from Berlin and Brandenburg gave personal insights into their working world and shared their experiences and visions in workshops, work shows, film screenings and guided tours. WILA 24h finally provided a space for a long overdue dialog. And: to date, over 100 interested women in Berlin are networking in the WILA network.

So now a nationwide WIA festival - with WILA, of course! It's about showcasing the achievements of women and entering into a discourse with other disciplines to promote diversity in building culture.

The already planned event of the bdla association on March 14 and 15, 2025 in Berlin on "Gender Equitable, Diverse and Inclusive - The Future of Landscape Architecture" forms the thematic introduction and the first contribution of the federal association to the WIA/WILA Festival 2025.

The Berlin Chamber of Architects is the umbrella organization for the WIA Festival 2025 at federal level; the bdla Berlin/Brandenburg is the lead organization within the bdla. The WILA landscape architects have already put their experiences, expectations and event ideas on paper and hope "that the spark of enthusiasm for WILA 2025 will be ignited". That's it: Nine bdla regional groups are planning events, training courses, workshops on women in building culture between June and November.© Festival Women in Architecture 2025
