On September 30, 2024, after a long break, the competition working group met for a face-to-face meeting at the bdla federal office under the direction of the new specialist spokesperson Christian Jürgensmann.
Networking, the provision of information, further and advanced training and the promotion of high-quality planning competitions were formulated as central topics. The medium-term goal is also to provide a collection of orientation aids, court rulings and specialist information as a "knowledge pool" for bdla members.
Timo Herrmann, bdla Vice President, and Nicolai Blank, Editor-in-Chief of competitionline, were also present as guests. The intensive discussion included a critical examination of the various competition and award procedures, the inclusion of sustainability aspects in the tendering process and the role of competitionline as a platform for networking and providing information. Particular attention was paid to the declining number of competitions and the challenges posed by EU-wide tenders.
The working group also advocated increased communication of successful award procedures to public clients and the involvement of the public in competition processes, particularly in performance phase 0 ("target finding phase") of the BGB. The Federal Foundation for Baukultur is to be approached as an additional multiplier. In addition, a targeted exchange with the bdla Federal Working Group on Economics and the Federal Chamber of Architects is to be sought, for example on the amendment of the guidelines for planning competitions.
A nationwide event on the competition system is planned for 2025. The main aim is to transfer knowledge and provide in-depth further training for bdla members. Another target group is the public sector.
