bdla excursion to the World Art Exhibition in Kassel on 1 and 2 September 2017

It's documenta year again. In Athens, the art exhibition already opened in April; in Kassel, it can be seen from 10 June to 17 September 2017. Two days in Kassel and documenta14 - that's what the bdla and the city of Kassel are offering on September 1 and 2.

The first day of the event is dedicated to the world art exhibition. Art guides will accompany participants to and within the classic documenta exhibition venues, opening up contemporary art on Friedrichsplatz as well as in the Fridericianum and the documenta Hall. The day will be rounded off with a summer party over the city's rooftops at the Museum für Sepulkralkultur.

The second day of the excursion will be devoted to experiencing the current documenta and retracing earlier world art exhibitions in the city. Kassel's public space differs from that of other cities in that it is filled with high-profile outdoor objects from the documenta past. Thus, by gradually opening up new venues, the exhibition series has programmatically taken possession of its urban surroundings. Site-specific artworks that comment on or intervene in the urban context have been part of every documenta since 1977. A selection of traces with landscape architects from Kassel will take us to the Weinberg, the new Grimmwelt, through the Karlsaue state park and into Südstadt, among other places.
