How do we want to live? How do we reconcile work, research, living and recreation in the future? How can we think of nature with expansion? Urbanization with ecology? Is change the new green?
Under the motto: "Where ideas grow", the Würzburg State Garden Show invites its visitors to approach these questions from 12 April to 7 October 2018.
Around two kilometres from Würzburg city centre and on a par with the historic Marienberg Fortress, interested visitors can not only experience rare plants and blooming landscapes on 95 hectares, but also get to know a location for new ideas: on a plateau with a chequered history, the new Hubland district is being created - with a large park, diverse forms of housing, central facilities and social infrastructure. A quarter that will strengthen the city of Würzburg as a location for knowledge and work and make it even more attractive as a place to live.
In addition to numerous theme gardens, trends in nature and garden art, urban gardening and mobility, as well as attractive play and adventure areas, visitors to the garden show can also embark on a journey through time.
The exhibition will take visitors through the multifaceted history of this area, which was once a potato field, then a gallows hill, a runway for aviation pioneers and finally a base for the US armed forces. The planning of the LGS 2018 was carried out by hutterreimann landschaftsarchitekten GmbH, Berlin. The investment budget is around €18 million, the implementation budget €13 million.
