The Werkbund goes to the countryside. Last year, a new initiative of the Deutscher Werkbund Bayern was launched with the Schlehdorf Impulses. It dealt with questions of how to deal with the challenges of excessive immigration and its consequences in places with a privileged landscape and economy.

This year the emphasis is on the other side of the scale. The focus is on dwindling places, those that are suffering from a loss of centrality and attractiveness as a place to live and work, as well as a loss of culture and home. The aim is to show examples of how various strategies can be used to counteract this.
Among other things, the expansion and reconstruction of social and cultural centres, the provision of generation-appropriate housing, space-saving planning and building, appreciation of the existing with an open mind for new quality all contribute to this. All examples show how important it is to involve the population in the process of developing a deeper awareness of home and quality, but also that there must be decisive actors on the ground who initiate the process and carry it forward.
