From plan to reality: 40 years of state garden shows in Bavaria

The success story of the Bavarian State Garden Shows began with the first Bavarian State Garden Show in 1980 in Neu-Ulm. Together with the local authorities, the Gesellschaft zur Förderung der Bayerischen Landesgartenschauen mbH (Society for the Promotion of Bavarian State Garden Shows), founded in 1978, has now been realising all garden shows in Bavaria for forty years. 34 garden shows have been realised since then, creating hundreds of hectares of permanent green and recreational areas in Bavaria.
For the garden shows have long been far more than mere "flower shows", but rather serve as an instrument for urban development and the promotion of greenery in the city, for the improvement of the urban climate, the residential environment and the leisure and local recreation offerings. With the subsidies granted, the Free State of Bavaria is relying on these regional development policy and ecological effects of state garden shows.
Without plan no garden show
Landscape architects are always involved in a central role in the respective garden shows - from the first planning idea over the construction supervision up to the concrete conversion of the total plant as well as the individual show areas. For this purpose, the society usually launches an open competition for landscape architects in advance.
The bdla Bavaria, which contributes its specialized knowledge for a long time in its role as technical adviser, congratulates the Macher and Macherinnen cordially to the anniversary and wishes the Free State of Bavaria still many further successful like lasting garden shows!
The following cities have already been selected: Ingolstadt / Lindau (2021), Freyung (2023), Kirchheim (2024), Furth im Wald (2025), Schweinfurt (2026), and - brand new! - Bad Windsheim (2027).
