This year, for the first time, the Bavarian State Government is awarding a prize for special services to climate protection. Proposals for the Bavarian Climate Protection Award can be submitted from now until mid-September.

Bavaria's Environment Minister Thorsten Glauber emphasized this in Munich today: "Mastering climate change is one of the most important tasks of our time. We are taking great strides towards a climate-neutral Bavaria. As Minister of the Environment, I am pleased about every good measure for more climate protection. We can only master climate change together. Climate protection is a participatory project. We want to anchor climate protection in the middle of society. We want to honour and publicise outstanding achievements in climate protection. To this end, we have created the Bavarian Climate Protection Award. Anyone can nominate committed individuals, associations, companies or municipalities." With the Bavarian Climate Protection Award, the state government honours special services to climate protection or adaptation to the effects of climate change.

The prize, worth a total of 10,000 euros, is awarded in two categories: The first category is to honour people who have made a special private contribution to climate protection or adaptation to the effects of climate change. The second category is intended for legal entities with outstanding commitment, such as registered associations, municipalities or companies. The winners of both categories will receive prize money of 5,000 euros each. In addition, an image film will be made about the award-winning initiative, which the winners can use for their own purposes.

The prize will be awarded to persons with a connection to Bavaria: either the participants have their permanent main residence or company headquarters in the Free State or they are committed to climate protection or climate adaptation in Bavaria. The initiative should already be underway and show visible results or - if already completed - have an impact on the present. Projects that convince through a coherent overall concept will be honored. The criteria for selection include originality, innovation, transferability to third parties, sustainability, continuity and transparency with regard to project development and implementation.

An independent jury will select the winners of the "Bavarian Climate Protection Award 2021" competition. The prizes will be presented by Environment Minister Glauber at the end of the year. The State Agency for Energy and Climate Protection (LENK) at the State Office for the Environment (LfU) organizes the competition.
