As the Rathaus Umschau of the state capital Munich reports in issue 234 of December 7, 2022, the building committee of the city council has commissioned the building department in a preliminary advisory capacity to apply the sponge city elements for on-site water storage and for vegetation irrigation in construction projects, to develop them further and thus to implement these principles of the sponge city on public areas.

The building department was also instructed to make greater use of the "Munich Rainwater Treatment System". In addition, the city administration is to apply the sponge city principles in future to development plans with integrated green planning and to examine in each case whether the microclimate and other green planning aspects can be improved by opening up or renaturalizing bodies of water.
