DESY research hall 36

Supported by BUKEA, the Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron is implementing one of the city's largest greening projects on the science campus. The foundations have already been laid for more than 4,500 square meters of roof and façade greening in Hall 36. The greening is part of the "Green DESY" program with a focus on biodiversity and rainwater management.

Max Planck Institute for the Structure and Dynamics of Matter

To compensate for working in laboratories with little light, the institute has an intensively planted roof garden on two levels. Thanks to accessibility from the outside, the natural-looking roof landscape is also open to employees from neighboring institutes. Special attention was paid to the efficient storage and reuse of excess precipitation during the planning phase.

Awarded "Green Roof of the Year 2021" by the Bundesverband Gebäudegrün e.V., nominated for the German Landscape Architecture Award 2023 of the bdla.

Physics school laboratory Light undamp; Schools

As part of the University of Hamburg, the school laboratory invites pupils to research and experiment. The building architecture blends in with its surroundings in a unique way: a large existing pine tree was deliberately integrated into the structural planning and now presents itself as a site-defining element - a challenge in terms of design and technology.
