The climate in our cities is changing. In addition to heavy rainfall events, it is becoming warmer, drier and more extreme at peak times. It is necessary to counter this circumstance with sustainable solutions in order to develop open and urban spaces that are fit for the future.Examples will be used to demonstrate strategies for developing new planning approaches to increase the amount of vertical green in cities. The different types of vertical green require rethought buildings. This has direct implications for structural design and material use.Landscape architecture serves not only the expertise from vegetation science, but also the creative, creative performance of design and technical planning. In the connection with existing open spaces in the location surrounding field and further greened objects the building becomes in the best case, a new part of an overall green concept.

About the lecture series
Landscape architecture provides essential areas of knowledge for the formation of this new third greening dimension of our cities. This series of events provides an insight into the projects of internationally active landscape architects who report on their work experiences in a globally networked world undergoing climate change and on the answers that a design discipline can provide to social changes.
