Lecture series "International Landscape Architecture" 2024 - The city is the sport

Urban landscapes in motion

In a fitness and health-conscious society, play, sport and exercise facilities in urban areas are becoming increasingly attractive alongside traditional sport in clubs. They are becoming important points of attraction and, quite naturally, architectural elements in urban spaces.

Public and freely accessible exercise facilities enable an intensive neighborhood and bond between the urban community and its green spaces. They are an integral part of the urban lifestyle and thus an enrichment with high social value for the community.

As an "add-on" to the DAM exhibition of the same name, the lecture series presents award-winning projects in the creative interplay of landscape architecture, architecture, urban planning, art and design. Socio-scientific components play an important role alongside sophisticated, standardized and high-quality design as a network for coexistence and cooperation in an active urban society and in the neighbourhood.

In addition to traditional sports in clubs, informal sports are becoming increasingly attractive in a fitness and health-conscious society. They are an important attraction and part of the green infrastructure, which has a social and intergenerational connecting function in urban areas.

The functionality of sports and leisure facilities integrated into the urban space enriches the quality of life across all social classes and age groups and increases the potential of inner-city green spaces. They combine the sporting aspect with the urban lifestyle and enable this to be enjoyed in a variety of ways.
The need to embed sports facilities in the urban landscape is a challenge and places new demands on urban planning, landscape architecture and developers.

The exchange between architecture and landscape architecture

The development of future-oriented urban spaces presents a wide range of challenges for the design disciplines of architecture and landscape architecture. The topics of resource-conserving, resilient construction, the design of usable and playable spaces and the development of suitable atmospheres are interdisciplinary.

An early dialog between the designing disciplines enables a comprehensive and joint development of the project. In the best case scenario, knowledge can merge, the appropriate paths for the project can be taken and the perspective and understanding for each other can grow. The optimum solution for the location can thus be found. The building enters into a dialog with its context, the urban space gains a special place, the outside has an effect on the inside.

Climate and resource protection in open space

The bdla Landesverband Hessen e.V. and its cooperation partners invites in connection with the "International Days of Nachhaltgkeit 2023" to a series of events with three consecutive modules in the context of the Landesgartenschau Fulda 2023 to an intensive discourse.

Modern landscape architecture has complex tasks to meet the diverse requirements of our ever-changing society. It has the requirement, with in the first place of the planning disciplines, to coin the currents to more climate-fair planning and building. No other discipline combines the resource-conserving use of space and goods across the various planning levels. Starting from spatial planning to object planning, landscape architecture and planning are represented.

The general public, administrations, politics as well as our cooperating disciplines make demands for planning in the sector of landscape and green, which should protect us in the future from the major influences of climate change.

The regulations frequently used as a basis for assessment in practice - such as LAGA Notice 20 and the "Technical Rules for Soil" - will cease to apply when the new EBV comes into force.
