In addition to traditional sports in clubs, informal sports are becoming increasingly attractive in a fitness and health-conscious society. They are an important attraction and part of the green infrastructure, which has a social and intergenerational connecting function in urban areas.

The functionality of sports and leisure facilities integrated into the urban space enriches the quality of life across all social classes and age groups and increases the potential of inner-city green spaces. They combine the sporting aspect with the urban lifestyle and enable this to be enjoyed in a variety of ways.
The need to embed sports facilities in the urban landscape is a challenge and places new demands on urban planning, landscape architecture and developers.

While the integration of sports facilities into the landscape primarily requires consideration of the classic environmental factors, in the city there are a variety of usage requirements, sensitivities and neighbourhood-specific features that require different specialist skills due to the new sports, most of which are hardly standardized.

In order to finance such projects, planners need experienced concepts and sustainable strategies when budgets are tight. Local authorities are given an insight into the funding landscape in order to be able to generate funds from various funding pots in addition to the available budget.

Best practice projects address the heterogeneity of the topic and show possibilities for multifunctional combinations with the usual urban uses. Sports-specific specialist articles shed light on various trend sports offerings. Last but not least, the considerations focus on the good, standardized and high-quality design of both classic sports facilities and "free" exercise spaces as a network for coexistence and togetherness in an active urban society and in the neighbourhood. In times of climate change with increasing temperatures in cities and frequent heavy rainfall events, suitable measures for the year-round usability of the facilities will also be presented.

The symposium is aimed at all those involved in the planning and design of outdoor sports, play and exercise areas at the client, planning and decision-making level in the administration of cities and municipalities, as well as the professions of landscape architecture, architecture, urban planning and engineers and experts in related fields who are involved in the planning process.
Interesting project visits are on the agenda for the afternoon of the second day. The transfer will be by charter bus.
