Presentation by Britta Schümmer | ASTOC ARCHITECTS AND PLANNERS

At the first Baukultur Talk 2024, Britta Schümmer from ASTOC will present strategies for transformation. The existing building stock is always both a challenge and an opportunity, and the transformation of existing buildings and districts has always been part of planning and building culture. Not only due to increasingly scarce resources, it has recently moved back into the focus of current building discussions. Transformation in planning is closely linked to political and social goals - such as land and resource-saving construction, the establishment of circular economies, the use of gray energy and adaptation to climate change. These goals are not only achieved with the actual construction project, but the course is often set in much earlier planning phases. A series of current projects, including the Magnum site in Osnabrück, will be used to show how strategies for the successful transformation of urban spaces can be designed across all planning scales.
