"Urban Open Spaces - Green Finger Inspiration" on April 27, 2017.

Location: Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences, Haste Campus

Organiser: Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences

To continue the tradition of the International Day of Open Spaces, this year's conference will again offer many inspirations for students of landscape architecture and professional guests. Inspired by new research proposals for the development of the Green Finger, the green space system of the city of Osnabrück, the question of a future interaction between agricultural production, ecological provision as well as living use will be raised. Graduates, partners and friends of landscape architecture have been invited as speakers to shed light on different approaches to the discipline. Examples from several European cities will be used to explain how they approach greenery as a supporting and formative spatial figure around and within the built urban body. In doing so, the treatment of spatial figures contributes to expanding the spatial understanding of the city beyond the built space in the direction of quality of life.

But how can the surrounding landscapes be unmistakably brought into view, secured and developed as a spatial appearance in the urban layout of Osnabrück? And if formative landscape figures around and in cities could be elements of a new identification, could clear and distinctive spatial figures be found to depict this agreement? Between the highlighting of large green connections between city and landscape, use, necessity and experience should congeal into supporting arguments for future urban development. However, this raises the question of what the process looks like that expands the view from the immediate grasp of space to conceptual action to a new experience of space? This year's event will shed light on these and other questions and thus offer enough space for personal interpretations, lively discussions and new approaches.
