The jury awarded a further five prizes. One of them went to Brigtte Röde, landscape architect bdla and spokesperson for garden art and garden culture bdla nw.

The jury named a further 44 entries to the TOP 50. All 50 works are documented in the book Gardens of the Year 2019, which is now available in stores. Until 18 April, all works can also be seen in an exhibition at Schloss Dyck (Jüchen).

Callwey Verlag and Garten + Landschaft, together with their partners, Mein schöner Garten, Gartenpraxis, BGL Bundesverband Garten-, Landschafts- und Sportplatzbau e. V., bdla Bund Deutscher Landschaftsarchitekten, DGGL Deutsche Gesellschaft für Gartenkunst und Landschaftskultur e.V., Dehner Garten-Center, Glatz Sonnenschirme, Hofquartier and Schloss Dyck, launched the GARDENS OF THE YEAR competition for the fourth time, looking for the best private gardens designed by landscape architects / garden and landscape designers in the German-speaking world. The jury selected 50 projects and named one prize winner and five awards from these. Emphasis was placed on holistic concepts that individually transform the garden into an extended living and enjoyment space for the user. There should be a strong idea behind it, to which plants, materials, products etc. are subordinate.

The first prize of 5,000 euros was awarded to the office of landscape architect Volker Püschel (Mettmann) for the "incomparable charm of transience" in North Rhine-Westphalia. Execution: Ringbeck GmbH (Oelde). Five offices each received an award:

FFLO-James Fox (James Fox, Tunbridge Wells) for "Mosaic of Cultures" in Koblenz. Execution: Forster Garten- und Landschaftsbau

Planungsbüro Garten und Freiraum Brigitte Röde (Brigitte Röde, Cologne) for "Die Quadratur des Kreises" in Cologne. Execution: Jansen und Arens GmbH & Co. KG

GrafGarten (Fenna Graf, Ascheberg) for "Im Holsteinischen Garten Eden" in Ascheberg. Execution: Fenna Graf

The jury

Tanja Gallenmüller (editor Garten + Landschaft, editor-in-chief Topos), Irene Burkhardt (vice-president Bund Deutscher Landschaftsarchitekten bdla), Thomas Banzhaf (vice-president Bundesverband Garten-, Landschafts- und Sportplatzbau e.V. BGL), Alexander Koch (Koch + Koch Gartenarchitekten, award winner 2018), Andrea Kögel (Editor-in-Chief Mein schöner Garten), Konstanze Neubauer (author), Jonas Reif (Editor-in-Chief Gartenpraxis [until 9/2018]), Jens Spanjer (President Deutsche Gesellschaft für Gartenkunst und Landschaftskultur DGGL e. V., Managing Director of the Schloss Dyck Foundation).

For the first time, the Solutions of the Year were also chosen in the categories "Flooring", "Outdoor Lighting" and "Plant Novelty". These were selected by specialist editors from the field of landscape architecture and garden design.

The first prize in the flooring category went to pur natur Holzprodukte (Zell am Harmersbach) for the Kollin terrace made of Douglas fir wood.

The award went to KANN Gmbh Baustoffwerke (Bendorf) for BETONPLUS slabs.

A special prize for innovation was awarded to Sonnenanker (Cologne) for the parasol stand of the same name.

The first prize in the outdoor lighting category went to Artemide S.p.A. (Pregnana Milanese) for the Reeds luminaire.

The award went to Louis Poulsen (Düsseldorf) for the Flindt wall lights.

The first prize in the plant novelty category was awarded to D. Labhart (Schafisheim) for the Sellana Honey Meadow wildflower tiles.

The award went to Bruns Pflanzen-Export GmbH & Co. KG (Bad Zwischenahn) for the Living Art planting ring system.
