In shaping our future, we should start from an inventory of our built spaces. Around three quarters of all building investments in Germany go into existing buildings. Here, it is a matter of recognising, recording and qualifying the immaterial and economic value of existing buildings.
Existing buildings shape our living environment and its evolved character, they have an identity-forming effect and constitute valuable resources. What role do the evaluation of design and function, of materials and building materials, new technologies and the confrontation with complex regulations for demolition or preservation play? And to what extent do integrated planning processes and planning instruments of land policy help to make existing buildings and infrastructures in cities and rural areas fit for the future?
The Federal Foundation for Building Culture - in cooperation with the German Federal Environmental Foundation, the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation and the Federal Environment Agency - invites you to the Baukulturwerkstatt "Bestandsaufnahme" in Dessau on 8 and 9 March 2018. The event is supported by the Association of German Landscape Architects bdla.
The first workshop day offers guided tours of the Bauhaus, lectures on the possibilities and requirements of stocktaking and an evening reception. On the second workshop day, "working spaces" will be opened up with impulses and discussion rounds on key topics. In keeping with the theme and on the occasion of the upcoming Bauhaus anniversary in 2019, this Baukulturwerkstatt will take place in Dessau-Roßlau.
The Baukultur workshops are the central event format of the Bundesstiftung Baukultur. Their results will be included in the Baukulturbericht 2018/19, on the theme of "Heritage.Stock.Future".
