The public kick-off event of the 24th international conference "DLA-CON Digital Landscape Architecture Conference 2023" could again be hosted at Bauhaus Dessau.

At the reception, the winning entries of the Central German Student Competition 2022 "Schwammstadt Welterbestadt Quedlinburg" were exhibited. The two winners Holger Rothamel and Saeed Asgarpour Khansary explained their work personally. Prof. Dr. Michael Hensel from the Vienna University of Technology, who will host the conference there in June 2024, also came to the reception.

The opening lecture was given by the new director of the Bauhaus Foundation Dessau Dr. Barbara Steiner with the topic "From the Bauhaus to The New European Bauhaus".

The "New European Bauhaus" is a contribution to the design of our future living spaces within the framework of the "European Green Deal" of the EU. The three cornerstones Beautiful | Sustainable | Together are to be filled with life. Dr. Steiner introduced the topic with her presentation and then gave a working report on the contribution from Saxony-Anhalt.

Her topical introduction was followed by an excellent panel discussion with the Vice President of the Chamber of Architects Prof. Ralf Niebergall, Prof. Dr. Nicole Uhrig, Anhalt University of Applied Sciences, Dr. Barbara Steiner, Director of the Bauhaus Foundation Dessau and with Prof. Dr. Pia Fricker, Aalto University Finland as moderator.

At the end of the evening it can be stated that our profession is actively facing the new topics of sustainable planning and building in landscape architecture. Under the theme "Resilient Landscape Landscape Architecture: We Rock It!" we had invited the blues rock band DOCTOR VICTOR from Prague... and we rocked it - at least that evening!

We as BDLA, together with the company Vectorworks, were very happy to support the Anhalt University of Applied Sciences once again in this vital exchange between architects from the region and participants from 20 different countries. The conference took place with more than 80 contributions and discussions on the following two days in the Audimax of the Anhalt University of Applied Sciences, right next to the Bauhaus Dessau. Only a small number of speakers presented their papers for the Hybrid Conference online, however the majority decided not to miss the chance to present in person again.
