The EU Commission presented its new strategy for adaptation to climate change on 24/02/2021 (press release). "The aim of the strategy is to achieve the vision of a climate resilient Union by 2050". Climate resilience is to be included as an overarching theme in all EU policy areas in the future, from financial planning to energy efficiency of buildings and public procurement.

How conflicts between the expansion of renewable energies on the one hand and landscape and nature conservation on the other can be avoided was the topic of a public expert discussion in the Bundestag's Committee on the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety on Wednesday, 24 February 2021. In the meeting chaired by committee chair Sylvia Kotting-Uhl (Bündnis 90/Die Grünen), the majority of the invited experts were in favour of making greater use of the potential of wind power and photovoltaics. On the other hand, the use of bioenergy and hydropower was viewed critically.

On 22.02.2021, the first public expert hearing took place in the Building Committee, on the draft law for the mobilization of building land within the framework of the amendment of the Building Code (BauGB) in the Bundestag (19/24838, 19/26023). Associations as well as representatives of the real estate and housing industry were invited. They expressed their criticism of the government draft.

On 1 January 2021, the new HOAI came into force, adapted to the ECJ ruling of 04.07.2019.
"Now there are fee tables with orientation values with a range between a base rate (formerly minimum rate) and an upper rate (formerly maximum rate). There are no more liabilities and price competition is likely to develop. One challenge will be that dealing with the new HOAI will have to be learned", writes Jörg Homann, bdla speaker for economics in his editorial for "Landschaftsarchitekten", issue 1/2021.

Competition for the 50 most beautiful private gardens decided
Again a year is around, again there is the most beautiful garden of the year in the German-speaking countries and 49 further absolutely successful private green paradises. The now 6th competition "GARDENS OF THE YEAR" has come to an end, and the bdla is one of its partners.

The bdla working group on training conducted a survey on the number of first-year students and graduates in landscape architecture courses, the evaluation of which is now available. The central result is that the number of beginners and graduates is largely constant with slight annual fluctuations, but without a clear upward or downward trend.

It contains a uniform procedure for garden monument conservation target planning and thus contributes to the qualification and standardization of this discipline. The catalogue of services can be ordered for 27,50 Euro in the online shop of the FLL.
