The Werkbund goes to the countryside. Last year, a new initiative of the Deutscher Werkbund Bayern was launched with the Schlehdorf Impulses. It dealt with questions of how to deal with the challenges of excessive immigration and its consequences in places with a privileged landscape and economy.
This year the emphasis is on the other side of the scale. The focus is on dwindling places, those that are suffering from a loss of centrality and attractiveness as a place to live and work, as well as a loss of culture and home. The aim is to show examples of how various strategies can be used to counteract this.
Among other things, the expansion and reconstruction of social and cultural centres, the provision of generation-appropriate housing, space-saving planning and building, appreciation of the existing with an open mind for new quality all contribute to this. All examples show how important it is to involve the population in the process of developing a deeper awareness of home and quality, but also that there must be decisive actors on the ground who initiate the process and carry it forward.

Today, more than 77 % of Germany's population already lives in cities and urban agglomerations, and the trend is rising. Both the economic and ecological pressure on the availability of urban and peri-urban land has increased noticeably in the past. At the same time, the provision of recreational and welfare functions is still one of the essential tasks of qualified green and open spaces. Against this background, the urban climatic effects and the ecosystem services of urban forms of greening in particular are being newly discussed, scientifically investigated and evaluated.
In order to minimise the effects and challenges of these developments, a sustainable green infrastructure is also crucial.

The 2017 film about the gardens of the internationally renowned Dutch garden designer Piet Oudolf will be shown for the first time in Munich.
Filmmaker Thomas Piper uncovers Oudolf's creative processes and views, from the first sketches and conceptual designs to his philosophical and aesthetic credo and the ecological implications of his work. Piper employs various lighting effects and depth of field, as well as unusual framing and color schemes, to create an environment for the contemplative atmosphere and changing moods of Oudolf's gardens. In this way, he succeeds in communicating an emotional spectrum that encompasses both the transience of beauty and the beauty of transience.

The focus of the 3rd symposium is on barrier-free playground design. There is a lot of uncertainty here and few good examples of implementation. We will explore the questions: How does the art of designing attractive play environments succeed? When does "overprotection" impair the play value? We will also discuss the current changes in the regulations, such as the missing parts of DIN EN 1176 and the new version of DIN 18 034: Playgrounds and open spaces for play.
The symposium offers suggestions and ideas and invites an active exchange of ideas. In the outdoor area, a course offers participants interesting, new experiences - on paths and surfaces that we might not have considered passable until now.
A new feature is a day specifically for playground users. Various contributions on Sunday, 20.10. will teach parents, educators and children what makes good playgrounds, how much risk is permissible and desired and what is meant by the term play value.

12th Weihenstephan Forum 2019: LOS_DAMA! Final event
Landscape Architecture and Landscape Planning
Urban "everyday" landscapes have important social and ecological functions for the cities of the Alpine region. At the same time, the diverse requirements of numerous interest groups in politically fragmented urban regions have to be reconciled. "Green infrastructure" is a promising planning approach for the development of multifunctional green networks that simultaneously achieve different policy goals, such as strengthening social cohesion and biodiversity. The European project "Los Dama! has developed and tested different approaches for the development of "green infrastructure" through inter-communal cooperation with different stakeholders. At the end of the project, the Weihenstephan Forum offers the opportunity to take a closer look at the potentials of landscape development as a connecting medium between city and countryside, European funding and local practice as well as science and practice in lectures and discussions.
